The primary concern for people with oily skin is an excessively shin face. You have to be especially conscious about your makeup and daily skin care routine because managing face shine appears a tedious task. Whatever you do, it just does not go away right? Washing your face many times a day can damage your skin, but what else can you do?

Here are my 12 best proven tips to prevent shine and make your skin look fresh. So, let’s get started:

Use cleansers that contain 2% salicylic acid

Check your face wash. Does it contain salicylic acid? If not, you might want to change it. Using a cleanser that contains at least 2 percent of salicylic acid will assist you to keep shine at bay all day long. It breaks down the oils that your skin produces, without over-drying your skin.

Use a clay mask twice a week

Clay masks are best friends for people with oily/ combination skin. If you’re a mask obsessed like me, you would already have tried some of them. I use kiehl’s amazonain deep pore rare earth clay mask twice a week. This doesn’t only prevent shine but also makes your skin appear more radiant and youthful. People who have more acne prone skin might want to consider using a sulfur mask instead. It aids in calming down the angry pimples and unclog pores.

Use a mattifying primer before applying your foundation

This is a very important step for people with oily/combination skin to include in their foundation routine. Using a mattifying primer creates a matte layer on your skin and prepares your skin for a nice application of foundation. It does not only prevent shine but also makes your foundation go on smoother without letting the pores clog. Which in turn means less blemishes and black heads! In short, it’s a complete win-win situation for you. I use Smashbox’s photo finish foundation primer. It work wonders for my skin.

Be Mindful of what you eat!

That doesn’t require much explanation! We are quite fond of fried and spicy food despite knowing it really aggravates our skin’s oil production. Spicy foods also make you sweat a lot that makes your face even shinier and messed up.  Foods like cantaloupe and spinach, that are rich in Vitamin A, can actually reduce skin’s oil production.

Choose your Foundation Wisely

When you really want to get rid of shine, you need to choose your foundation very wisely. Opt for an oil-free foundation, use a mineralized powder foundation, or simply any mattifying one. But that does not mean you skip on your primer. These all steps add up to your shine-free skin. I use PALLADIO mineral loose foundation (talc-free). For touch ups, I keep a Party Queen compact powder in my purse. It’s a natural mattifying compact powder which I really recommend you to try.

Try a peel with glycolic acid

This is like an extra step when you really cannot have enough of oil preventing regime. But use it with care as it can over dry your skin. I regularly use it and apply the clay mask next day. Application of both at the same time may not suit you.

Keep blotting papers handy

Sometimes, during your day out, you pause and look in the mirror only to end up discovering an oil factory on your face. At that time you may feel helpless and stressed. Just flip out a blotting paper from your purse, dab it on your face and it will absorb all the oil leaving your skin shine and oil free. The best thing is blotting papers portable to carry in your bag. But instead of rubbing the sheet on your face, just dab and press it. You can get these locally at any cosmetics shop. I discovered some really good and affordable ones by cool & cool at hyper-star. You might also want to try Blotterazzi from Beauty Blender Team. It’s also really cool to use besides blotting papers.
