Whenever we come across a campaign for gender rights, our first reaction is, “it must be a group of disgruntled women selling hatred towards men”. Gladly, the campaign HeforShe seems to be breaking this cliche. HeforShe, was launched in September 2014 by United Nations, which now reaches Pakistan. The UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson launched this campaign with the aim of raising voice against the disparity between men and women in terms of social and economic treatment and decision making. The aim of this solidarity campaign is simple, to bring together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity, for the benefit of all.

As a welcome stride for this campaign, the young Pakistani forward thinkers, and civil society activists held a community meeting at the MAD School on August 19. In collaboration with UN Women Pakistan, these activists have begun volunteering to spread the message of gender equality.

A number of problems faced by both men and women were highlighted in the meeting. The topic of discussion was sexual harassment, verbal attacks, and street harassment at the public places like markets, parks and public transport. The organizers put forward statistics of these forms of harassment and sexist slurs used against women and men. The committee emphasised the need to create awareness of these issues, promote gender equality, and eliminate discrimination.
