An Eid outfit for me about a decade back was a shimmery loud attire with a must have gota work that screamed happiness, funk, and desi-ness out loud (not a word, I just created it). I especially remember daadi getting our eid dress ready on which sitara embellishment was absolutely essential. For several years, the idea of Eid outfit has entirely changed and the brands have turned away from creating traditional color happy designs to more sophisticated and “to-be worn casually” look. They seem quite cool too as long as the brands don’t try to sell plain, dull kurtis in the name of “Eid collection” which has been the case mostly now. So it is quite frustrating for me to get an Eid outfit which resonates the spirit of Eid instead of just a regular work outfit! This year, I came across a few brands who have kept up the tradition by designing happy outfits. This is my Eid collection 2018 pick!
[Note, this is a roundup of ready to wear outfits only]
As compared to last year, their collection this time comprises of cotton silk and cotton with a combination of darker to softer colors. I generally like generation for their unique cuts and flairs and the same is inculcated in their Eid ul Fitr collection. Hand blocked prints, shisha work, gulkand saris, and gold embroidery give quite a festive air to each outfit.
Price Point: PKR 4000/- to 9000/-
This is probably the most festive Eid collection this year and there shouldn’t be any surprise because Rung ja is known for its color happy, loud statement outfits. Their collection is not so trendy in terms of unique cuts, but if you are looking for colorful prints, distressed embroidery, and ethnic embellishments, Rung ja should be your pick. I especially like their traditional chiffon shirts that have intricate gota work, the sort that will take you back to your bachpan ka Eid outfit!
Price point: The chiffon dresses are comparatively expensive (range from PKR 5K to 13k) but you can then recycle your Eid outfit in other special occasions. Whereas the cotton Eid outfits range between PKR 2K TO 5K.
Ego is the best fit for casual wear usually but I see a couple of festive trendy pieces this time. Angrakha, embroidered vests, organza wraps, and chiffon capes are totally setting the mood right for that chic, yet eastern eid dress.
Price Point: Price varies from PKR 2500 to PKR 12000.
You can see my last year’s eid outfit that I bought from Ego here!
I recently came across their Eid Allure collection and I was surprised how vibrant and on trend they have kept the designs. Flared tunics, cutwork gold embroidery, and gota laces give away the conventional desi eid look. I especially liked their gota inspired shirt and midnight blue tunic.
Price Point: Quite happy on the pocket as the price of different dresses goes from PKR 2900 to PKR 3800.
Agha Noor made the semi-formal wear more accessible and affordable for masses. Otherwise, the sort of material and quality embellishments that their kurtis don are available at a much higher price elsewhere. So this could be your most preferred pick if you want a scintillating desi eid dress this year. Their 2018 collection has the usual “Agha Noor” appeal like cotton net fabric, dabka work, soft colors, and resham embroidery. Its nothing out of the box, but sticking to beautiful tradition is what most of us are looking for when it comes to Eid festivities.
Price Point: Between PKR 2500/- to 5000/-
I haven’t happened to buy very frequently from Limelight because I don’t usually have a really good recall for this brand, hence I often miss it out while shopping. But the jacquard shirts from their Eid collection look quite lit. The rest of the collection is quite plain to be honest and if I have to buy from here, I’d only choose the jacquard designs.
Price Point: PKR 3200/- to 3400/-
My Eid dress is going to be probably from one of the above collections, but I still have to go out and check more stores. And in case I like something equally good, I would tweak this list. Let me know which Eid collection or designs are you obsessing over this year?
